The first day after the lockdown in New Zealand I visited my local beach Piha. It was wild, dark, tempestuous, as only Piha can be with its black sand wildness. the surfers were out and the surf was up.
I love the drama and tones that the black sands and concrete skies give these images. Piha is a commanding beach. With monster surf and epic waves. Its black sand is as fine as icing sugar and sparkles in iridescent purple-blue colours.
Some of the shots from this day will be available on the site soon. They are only in small format as they were all shot on iPhone.
This series, Whangauma Waters, is one such shoreline shot on a blindingly bright summers day in New Zealand displays a kaleidoscope of beautiful colours and a play of chiaroscuro ripples.
On a recent trip to London, I sought to photograph the moments of calm and minimalistic serenity that exists in one of the busiest cities in the world. The graphic edges and shapes that interplay between buildings and the calming shafts of blues-grey skies in them was a calming influence on the chaos at street level.
